8. Summary of the Project: The project shall cover 5 remote locations which are located in different countries and also maintaining high security. The customer needed to have data interconnectivity between all their remote locations. Also for any communications, we have to provide the service with great performance. The bandwidth requirement from one location to the other locations is variable and needs to be flexible.

Detailed Project description and analysis

1. Overview of the project's targets and objectives

a) Brief description of the country regions: In recent times, IRAQ has been facing severe problems with violence and war. Hence due to constant destruction, it has become a difficult task to maintain a link with 99.99% availability for any ISP. Even fiber link connectivity is not guaranteed.

b) Objective and implementation details of the project applications: Our DAMA system is very highly flexible and versatile VSAT system for establishing wide area corporate networks infrastructures including IP routers as well as FR switch functionality. The project covers FIVE remote locations; each site communicates to all other remote sites using the IP protocol. The bandwidth is shared among all five remote locations. Customer needs to communicate between each remote location using their own proprietary software.

c) Financial Aspect of the project: The project is being implemented from Gatelink Communications fund. But later when implementing the project step by step, customers has cleared our invoices. The whole equipment cost for each remote locate is above USD 30K.

2. Infrastructure and regulatory environment

a) Infrastructure components: Since there was no satellite infrastructure before implementation of this project in the project areas, satellite equipment had to be setup from scratch.

b) Regulatory components: Gatelink Communications is using KU-band frequency on NSS 6 and its Orbital position is 95deg E.

3. Technical description of the project

a) Architecture, main technical characteristics, frequencies, power consumption, performances, network management etc.

The VSAT network is in MESH topology using DAMA technology. MF-TDMA is the access technology used. The network is in KU-Band. Good Quality of voice is also available with the extra equipment with this VSAT.

The other main features of this system are listed below:

b) Installation and deployed: The installation of VSAT is easy requiring only 2-3 days per site. Deployment is relatively fast with VSAT system.

c) Interconnection to networks: VSATs are connected to main head office and after successful completion of the installation and lineup; all VSAT's are able to communicate with each other.

d) Cost of the equipment and cost of operation of the system: Including antenna, BUC, LNB, modem etc, cost of per VSAT Terminal is USD 30000. Operational cost includes monthly space segment and maintenance charges.

4. Technical description of the services provided

a) For each service delivered: mode and quality the service offered is IP connectivity with reliable.

b) Cost of each terminal and cost of the service for the user:

Cost of each terminal is USD 12,000 and apart from these there are additional charges like antenna, BUC, LNB etc. The cost of the service is fixed and customer had gained with the service by achieving 99.99% of availability.

5. Effectiveness and sustainability of the project:

a) Effectiveness and benefits of the project , Our system provides instant bandwidth-on-demand through its fully dynamic bandwidth allocation scheme. Valuable space segment are automatically assigned to stations requiring transmission capacity as and when they need it while freeing up resources for on-demand use by other stations in the network.

b) Profitability of the project:

After the project is implemented, not only project shall be self sustainable it will generate profit for NBK, keeping their network available at all times and generating the business to certain extent.

c) As the satellite signal has to travel a distance of 72000kms, there will be a slight delay while communicating to each remote location. This is the only disadvantage, whereas while communicating through their own proprietary software there is no noticeable issues. The company has benefited with the reliable connection between each remote locations. Their business is stable by maintaining the data link availably to 99.99% and reliable connection between each remote location.

d) Aspects of the project, which could be strengthened to enhance its effectiveness or sustainability. Addition of extra bandwidth will enhance the effectiveness, benefit and profitability of the project.

6. Social and human development impacts

a) Overview of social and human development needs With this project, we maintained the link to be up and running at all times and there by maintaining the availability of the system to the NBK customers and not causing them any sort of difficulties.

b) Role and commitment of the project in addressing these needs: By implementation of this project, NBK shall be available for people in Remote locations to fulfill their services in rural areas.
